In 1826, under the administration of the LUPIAC cure by Father GELAS, a "mission *" was organized.
Mrs. de LAVARDAC, POME widow, wanting to materialize the teaching given during this mission, offered this cross. Its creation was entrusted to Mr. BUGAT, a blacksmith at LUPIAC.
It presents the symbols of the crucifixion and the descent from the cross: the hammer, the nail, the pincers, the crown of thorns, the rooster (symbol of Peter's denial) and the ladder used to lower Christ from the cross.
*After the revolution of 1789, “missions” were organized, extraordinary preaching often entrusted to specialized ecclesiastics: missionaries. The mission was an essential pastoral act of reconquest and affirmation for a Catholic Church in reconstruction.
