Église Saint-laurent à Maignan

To imprint yourself with the Elusate spirit, on the via Ténarèze which leads to the Sotiates… Saint-Laurent de Maignan church in Eauze: built in the 19th century to replace the old church, too small, located in the fields of 'in front.
Secrets of stones
The church stands on a delightful plateau of rare fertility, a stone's throw from the Roman city of Elusa, founded at the beginning of the 1st century AD, which became capital of the Roman province of Novempopulanie, in the 3rd century and one of the first bishoprics the following century. It is completely new and large since the parish of Maignan had up to 700 people. Under the rubble of the old church, mosaics and a marble altar were found, currently deposited in Toulouse. It was formerly attached to Parleboscq in the Landes.

Spirit of the place
“An almost new church and its spire, but a landscape which diffuses an indescribable feeling of eternity at the confines of the Eauzane land and these ancient elusive origins. The site was very inhabited, not far from the old Aquitaine oppidum located very close to here. And perhaps on one of the passages which led, 2000 years ago, to the country of the Sotiates, to their capital Sos. Below the vine plateau and the estate which borders it, the Gélise winds through a narrow and secret valley, like the Armagnac rivers, bordered by woods and meadows of incredible freshness. It draws, at the bottom of the coast, the limit between the departments of Gers and Landes du Gabardan, already with Atlantic gentleness. » – Bruno SIRVEN, Tree & Landscape 32.
