Église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine

4th century church, the bell tower in the form of a square tower topped by a XNUMX-sided pavilion, very solidly built, is of a beautiful elevation; or can notice the harmony constituted from an architectural point of view by the church and the adjoining presbytery.
You enter through a beautiful oak door, a single nave, flat vault with painted paneling. The walls are covered with quality 1848th century woodwork, in oak and walnut, up to the height of the windows. At the back of the bedside, tomb altar; behind the altar, the crucifixion, painted canvas signed ARTIGUES XNUMX.
To the east, statue of the Virgin and Child in painted and gilded carved wood from the 18th century. Beautiful statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul on each side of the altar.
To the north, chapel of the Virgin. To the south, chapel of Saint John the Baptist with a black marble altar. To the north, on the wall of the sacristy, Saint Mark, painted canvas from the XNUMXth century. A marble font with a large basin is placed at the back of the nave.
From the entrance, you can see the baptismal funds, a door hidden in the woodwork gives access to the bell tower.
Francis Jammes was inspired by the church of Maupas to write “the church dressed in leaves in 1906. His sister Marguerite lived in Estang, she rests in Maupas to the right of the entrance to the cemetery.
