Village de Courrensan

The village of Courrensan is very old (XNUMXth century) and Castelnau type. It was enlarged and can be considered a bastide
It is built on a spur overlooking the Auzoue. In 1602, the name of Courrensan appears with a monastic school attached to a Cluniac priory dependent on the monastery of Saint Mont. The feudal castle and the adjoining castelnau date from this period. In the 1630th century A second village developed where the first Gascon square tower was built in monumental stones. The bastide was protected by a double row of ditches and fortifications. Around XNUMX, Richelieu had the towers knocked down and the ramparts razed.
