1 – Armagnac & D’Artagnan: an air of legend ????

The first story, essential and centuries-old, is that of water, fire and earth, sublimated by men and their alchemy. A few distillations later, Armagnac was born, and with him a whole country. The second, more recent, is a meeting: that of the panache of Armagnac and the Gascon ardor of most famous Musketeers. A glass of Floc and two snacks later, the country of Armagnac & D'Artagnan appeared on the map! The third finally, planned for tomorrow, is written with each visitor. The tawny sands

These sands were deposited 10 million years ago when the sea bordered Haut Armagnac and Bas Armagnac was an estuary.

2 – A heritage that defies time 🏺

The medieval puzzle

Your quest for old Gers stones cannot be completed without a detour through Sainte-Christie d'Armagnac ! Nestled above the Midouzon valley and a stone's throw from the Way of Saint-Jacques de Compostela, this remarkable town is home to an authentic brain teaser cast (castle in old French) Medieval. Tower, moat, old cemetery and dedicated church, this stately estate classified as a Historic Monument in 2016 offers you a beautiful moment of heritage.

The Castet of Sainte-Christie d'Armagnac

  • Le Castet: Raw Earth Rampart and Feudal Motte Its first characteristic? An imposing raw earth rampart dating from the end of the XNUMXth century, the last of its kind in Europe.
  • Its second characteristic? The Castet de Sainte-Christie is a real archaeological mille-feuille. Its oldest remains, a sarcophagus and bones, date back to the Merovingian era.

Built at the beginning of the XNUMXth century by the local population, their oak frame, their Romanesque tiles and their “oxblood” red color have defied time until today. Our national hero has no shortage of panache and fighting spirit! Historical and literary figure inscribed in the collective imagination, D'artagnan was indeed born here. Because contrary to popular belief, the famous Musketeer by Alexandre Dumas Sr. did indeed exist.
